Western Sahara

Western Sahara is a territory located in North Africa, bordered by Morocco to the north, Algeria to the northeast, and Mauritania to the east and south. It is also adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean to the west. It has a population of around 500,000 people, the majority of which is the Sahrawi people. The capital and largest city is Laayoune.

Western Sahara is a disputed territory, with Morocco claiming sovereignty over the area. The Sahrawi people, who are the indigenous population of Western Sahara, have been fighting for independence for decades. The Polisario Front, a Sahrawi rebel group, has been leading the independence movement since 1973.

The history of Western Sahara has been marked by conflict and tension. The territory was a Spanish colony until 1975, when Spain withdrew. In the following year, Morocco and Mauritania annexed parts of the territory, with Morocco taking control of the majority of the land. Since then, the region has been the site of ongoing fighting between the Polisario Front and Moroccan forces.

Western Sahara has a desert climate and is mostly a desert landscape. The economy is based mainly on fishing, mining and pastoralism, but it is underdeveloped due to the ongoing political situation. The Sahrawi people have a rich cultural heritage, with traditional music, dance, and art playing an important role in their culture.
